when I was a military wife I did it the day after payday. but then left money in the budget for smaller things like bread, milk, fruits and veggies etc

we always did 1 big shop every payday! minor shops weekly for things like fruits that went bad quickly or what we would eat super fast like bread

I do every two weeks are bigger trees and then of course fruits and veggies I do I need to buy throughout the week. once a month I like to do a Big Sam's so it lasts us longer. I buy the big tubes of hamburger meat from Sam's Club in section them out and I buy my other meats on sale if I can
