However, instead of sticking to planning approval for a small extension, he then demolished the house entirely. In its place emerged a sprawling, gable-fronted replacement that dwarfs other properties in the quiet suburban street. The vast building, stretching 16 metres in length, now looms over modest bungalows and traditional family homes.
