If she loves doing pottery (and it’s not about making money more than her loving it) then the bog can wait if needed. It’s all about being happy. Is the forever home a happier feeling? If she’s miserable in her job, there’s a better answer.

It's about the journey; not the destination

I think a pottery business would be hard to scale very big, unless you are in a very touristy area. I doubt it would bring in much more than her current job. The social media component is impossible to predict, I would not count on that part in your business model

Do the math on it man....What would it take to get the investment back? How she go about selling product? how much to get the equipment and stuff?

That’s definitely a pickle. Looking through the comments thus far, I can see and agree with both sides of the issue. In the end, it comes down to making her happy and providing her with y’all’s forever home (which may or may not consist of combining the two). The more I think about it, the more I think Mr Peter from Canada has maybe a good idea.

Happiness and fulfillment can be worth a good bit of money. if the math is even close to mathing, invest in her and hey fulfillment. BOG house won't be as worthwhile if she had to hate life for more years on the way there.

go for it, me and my wife quit our jobs that we were at for 5 plus years and knew it was a big risk, we knew we financially couldn't do it but at the end of the day we knew would figure it out together. now we we've been at our new jobs, new house and are happier we took the risk. yeah we lost good money since we made the change. happiness is worth more then money is what im getting at..take the risk 💯 🙏

I’ve always wanted to start a property maintenance business. Like for a good 10 years I’ve wanted too. But I never pulled the trigger because I wasn’t fully in it. Someone else in these comments says. Do something small at night and weekends and start that way. Instead of sinking money into something she isn’t fully into. I would even say take classes, as many has you and she can afford to see if she is really wanting to do this. This is the “one leg in one leg out” method. If it’s a decision between this future business and waiting to building your forever home. I’d choose forever home all day long. Everything else can come later.

could you work on getting some small equipment and make some items on nights and weekends as like a trial run before you build a studio

What’s the bare minimum she needs to make and sell pottery? Could she work in an existing space you have? Perhaps putting money from her early pottery sales toward her studio would drive her momentum. Idea: agree to match, dollar for dollar, of her pottery sales with your BOG house funds. That way you’re only investing half into the studio, it proves her business model, and you’re both working toward your dreams.

It’s an investment in your future and it will be a great opportunity to spend more time together so I think you should.

couldn't you partially build the bog house and let that double as a temporary studio?

No. As an investor I can tell you thats the worse thing you can do. The money in my portfolio is for dividend returns every week. I absolutely do not touch it for any reason, not even emergencies. I e pulled money out before for boats and rvs and regretted it soon after. Stick to your financial plan.
