I would never be OK with that and I’ve been in this situation. My doctor had an emergency. He had to leave town over and had to cancel my surgery. I asked should I maybe go have it done with your brother who is also a surgeon. I’m sure they share a very similar skill. He said absolutely not. You did the research for me. You chose me and so I am the one who should be performing your surgery and I was relieved because I didn’t know anything about his brother. He said it wasn’t about the money or anything because that’s not how it works in their facility, but that I established the relationship with him already and didn’t know his brother. A better answer would be that we would get you rescheduled as soon as possible because it also begs the question if you’re expecting somebody to have to use another surgeon if they were expecting you and you became unavailable.
