You can use credit cards to pay for everything, once you live abroad you don’t have to pay it back lol

Start with passports and paperwork. Research your options, job openings, work or other visas, paths to citizenship etc.

Most important part is for you to learn Spanish or if you go to another country, learn the language. First, getting a job is easier and second, you really integrate and experience real life.

Hi from Spain! I know unknown is scary, but really, for USA citizens should not be that complicated. You have a lot going for you, just because of the language. Here there is this big aim to make schools bilingual English-Spanish, but there are not enough native English speakers for all the job vacancies so you will find mostly sure a job in academies first or even giving private lessons at students houses (which is really well paid) and later on at schools or highschools. Even in top corporate companies.
A good place to find a job well paid (by Spanish standards) is Michael Page or Page Personnel (same company, different status). I have jumped there from temporary office jobs, mind numbing data bases moves and translations. Or just because they are international corporations and they need administrative personnel to be able to answer emails and calls in English.

In 3-6 months, sell what you can part with and live on a strict budget to save what you can. Pick up an extra job if you can. During that time you can also track flights to try to get the best deal. It will still be hard but hope this helps!

Start the citizenship process ASAP. Countries in Europe have been cutting off processes (Italy did so earlier this year). Even if you don't intend to move until later, start the process today!

Figure out the job situation first. Can you find a remote job in the US or spain?
I'm pretty sure you'll find cheaper plane tickets. Look at cheaper air ports. Try to get you belongings down to a few suitcases each. Look for an apartment in a city. Not the most expensive one, but big enough that you won't feel entirely lost speaking english to start out. Find yourself some in Person intensive spanish class once you're there.
It will be hard, but you can do this. Most european contries are heavily influenced by US culture (social Media, Pop culture).
My partner decided he wanted to move to Germany from the US. He's been here for a year.
You're starting right already. You're asking questions. Keep doing that and you'll be okay 🩷

ok I did US to UK at 18 with minimal stuff in a fleeing kinda way. I did lose absolutely everything stuff wise. psychologically that's kind hard but it's doable. sell everything and put that all into savings. your dog is probably going to be your biggest hurdle. but there are cruise lines that go US to UK ( and probably Spain) so that might be a route to get yourself and your dog over while avoiding planes. it will cost a few grand but if you start reducing to the barest of bones you'll get there. probably a few months solid of libing on beans and rice and reading free books from the library. I would NOT recommend doing the credit card thing. Europe has credit card companies and credit scores. you will mess yourself up.

Congratulations on making the choice and also I’m so sorry that you have to do it. When 🍊 declared all political opponents t3rrorists yesterday the US officially became fascists. It’s very scary, I’m in Norway and I have no idea how you would do the move but if you ever need any help from here let me know!

“Easiest” path is to find a US job that you can do remote for about 2-3 months while searching for a long term rental and job in Spain in person.

Girl, you’ll get permanent residency thanks to her and mayyybeee citizenship after at least 5 years. Come as a tourist and then apply for a change of status because of family ties. Then you can get a job. Don’t forget to adapt to the customs and learn Spanish. Respect the people, do things the right way, and you’ll find a way to make a beautiful life here.

I went to live in Spain and I honestly have never been happier. It was easy for me to move there but then it became difficult due to brexit. I can’t you how to go about it from the US but I can tell you it was a beautiful life there. The people were the most amazing people and it was so calm and relaxed

You can get Croatian citizenship if you can prove that you have any ancester with Croatian rutes (unlike in most countrys where it only goes as far as grandparents)
Hope it helps somebody
