@croydonextra: College Green is set to get an exciting makeover as part of the regeneration of Croydon town centre as part of the Mayor’s Town Centre Vision. The Council, under the Growth Zone funded programme, will soon deliver a new public space in the cultural quarter. It will see the unused space that connects Fairfield Halls and Croydon College opened up to the public and improve connectivity from East Croydon Station to the town centre. The project supports Executive Mayor Jason Perry’s Town Centre Vision – to create a more welcoming, accessible, and vibrant town centre that attracts new visitors, residents, businesses and investors to the borough. The latest proposals are for a sociable green area. This could include a children’s play area, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) for sports activities, picnic area and seating and cafe terraces. It has been designed to be inclusive and accessible, with lots of greening, including wildflower planting and trees. A public exhibition will be held at Croydon College where residents and businesses will have the opportunity to find out more and have their say. It will be open from Monday 13 October to Saturday 18 October, 10am-4pm, with a late opening on 14 October until 8pm. The project team will be at the exhibition on Monday 13 October 12-4pm; Tuesday 14 October 12-8pm; and Saturday 18 October 10am-4pm. The exhibition will also be online on the Croydon Urban Room website. A planning application is then due to be submitted later this year. The College Green designs build on the wider Fairfield Masterplan. The designs have been revised to make sure they are suitable for the complex site conditions. MICA Architects have been appointed by the Council to develop the designs which have been shaped for a sociable, inclusive and playful public space. The project is funded through the Council’s Growth Zone Programme, a business rate uplift retention funding mechanism which is an innovative approach to fund and deliver this infrastructure and regeneration response. Projects within the Growth Zone Programme are delivered by the Council with the support of partners, the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Transport for London (TfL). College Green is one of ten projects under way in the town centre to improve connectivity, greenery and public spaces, and to celebrate the borough’s rich history. The programme includes improvements to Minster Green and building a new crossing in Wellesley Road to connect East Croydon to the town centre. #croydonextra

So in debt that council tax payers are having to pay to sort out due to the disgraceful behaviour of Negrini think money could have been used to pay off debt
