@michaelfarriertwist: Did Luke Donald play with fire with the Sunday singles or is hindsight just a wonderful thing? 🤷♂️ #RyderCup #usa #europe #fyp#golf
Said exactly the same when lineup was announced. When you only need a few points on the Sunday, you could have hidden some of the European stars in the lower middle order.

I think the way he played it was right. Putting all the "worst" guys first could cause them to lose and give the US momentum. Which is what happened anyway ironically. But he was trying to avoid that

He played it well. Should have put Hovland first to create a spark and move Rosie to the back to close it out.

I think the order was okay but should've put Rahm and Hatton first. they would've soaked up the environment like they had done all weekend

He wanted to finish them off early

Said exactly the same sat evening, would have reversed the order

He should’ve worked it in Europes favour. Our strongest vs USA’s weakest, I feel like he got that massively wrong. But we won in the end

Surely wants confidence by points won early ?

He wanted our strongest against their strongest because you don’t want them to be up on the first six matches and the boost that would have give them seeing all the red on the board. I recon that’s the thoughts anyway

I thought exactly the same. the guys at the top had also played the most matches and were burned out. they could have done with less intensity

Rory was out of gas he’d have lost to anyone on Sunday only reason he was close is beacause Scottie was just as bad

To me he was hoping that the first out would get it finished early and then the rest could free wheel and get a big win,as you said yourself I never imagined it be that close!

For I think it’s find starting with 2 of rose, Rory, fitz and fleetwood but for me the other 2 of them should of ended so you have the insurance knowing you have them at the end

Looking at strokes under par, how did the players perform? What would the result be if it had been a singles event?

I think he went for the record victory, rather than the safe win

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Can't blame Donald for wanting blue on the board fast

He’d of got slaughtered by everyone if he put his weaker players out first and US won all the early matches giving them momentum. Ironically that happened anyways, but very few have blamed the captain for that.

Luke wanted the excitement for the viewers and I thank him for that 💙🇪🇺 Sunday would have been boring if we we cleared the table in the first few matches.

Can’t let US get momentum, puts too much pressure on the others. Best players out earlier should have taken the pressure off those guys good later. He did the right thing.

I think he went for a record win, humiliation in their own back yard given the results Fri/Sat. Assuming as you say we had it in the bag by Rory’s finish and the rest of the Americans have nothing to play for and take foot off the gas and we demolish them?

William Robinson :
He had to do that in order to stop the US getting up in matches early. Yes they won a lot of the early matches but they were clinched with birdies on 18 so the momentum wasn't there as much as when Europe came back in 2012 because in the first five matches in 2012, they got up early in every match thus wiping out the US lead in the projected score. Keeping Lowry and Hatton down the bottom was important just in case of what actually happened.

the top 2 matches were unlucky to not go our way and came down to putts on the last. had we gotten half points from both the thing would have been over by the time Aberg won his match and it would have been far more comfortable. he got it right, the US just had a bit more luck on Sunday with their putts

Of the 11 games play 8 went to 18, 2 to 17 and only Xander/Rahm was short. Rose/Fleetwood had putts which could've won games. I would say US just sunk some putts on Sunday. Over years it tends to be strongest players always go out first. My first RC watched was 1981 at Walton Heath😉
