I’m approaching my first Christmas without my dad and I’d just like to come on here and say how horrible this lead up has been already. As a child who has lost a parent, going into a holiday that has been built on family traditions, nostalgia and parents creating a magical time for us every year… can leave us feeling pretty deflated and alone. Especially when we see all of the social media posts and the people around us getting excited for Christmas! Christmas feels so unsettling when you’ve lost a parent. My mum and dad made Christmas so magical every year as a child, with big snowy footprints round the house and a half eaten mince pie on Christmas morning. And as I got older, they still made it magical! My dad and I went to the pub every Christmas Eve, it was a new tradition we had. This year, I have to say goodbye to that tradition. I have to say goodbye to the “whole” feeling I would get every year. This is a reminder to everyone out there who is dealing with not only their first Christmas without their parent but any Christmas without their parent: I see you and you are not alone. I know how hard you are trying to put on a brave face. The holidays and milestones can be really tricky to navigate so try not to isolate yourself but be kind to yourself, give your grief space to be there with you through the holidays🤍 #parentloss #christmas #deaddadclub #parentgrief #grieftok
