Taylor saying wish list is one of her favourite songs and the one that made her realize the album was finished gave me pause- it's rich to say hope they get what they want ($$) when you can afford to not care about money.

Actually Romantic is clearly NOT a response to Sympathy is a knife. Charli’s song is just part of the whole context. Taylor obviously focused on things that happened backstage. I really don’t know how no one seems to understand that

nailed it. the love songs are so empty and you did a great job explaining why. not to invoke other swifties here, but people saying her love songs about joe being “full of anxiety” is just revisionist history. her honest doubts and worries in some of those songs is what made us believe in the love in the first place. I’m so disappointed in this album but agree father figure is smart and sharp, and clean version is even better imo!

The album doesn’t sound bad. My personal favorites are probably The Fate of Ophelia, Elizabeth Taylor and Cancelled. However, the second I listen to the lyrics more carefully, it just takes me out so completely and as a lyrics person who fell in love with Taylor’s lyricism this album is just so painfully disappointing

That line about boring Barbie is not in Charli’s song though so Taylor definitely heard more things said about her that we don’t know about. Also, Charli has shaded Taylor publicly a few times before which people seem to forget and only call Taylor the mean girl.

Actually romantic is about something more personal than sympathy is a knife. Saying it’s a response to that is one dimensional. We act like there isn’t some thing going on we don’t know about. Like these people are all in the same friend groups.

I think this album is a product of the time in which she wrote it, which she described as a mental escape from the exhaustion of being on tour. I work as a therapist for people with marginalized identities and most of the time, the work is really heavy. When I listen to this album I do feel unburdened and I get to just enjoy life for a second. It is largely shallow and not her best writing by far, but she also really delivered for me in that it’s a very boppy album that has infectious melodies, and there are also some songwriting gems that will hold a more dear place. My hope is that after she takes some time after this album cycle and when wedding planning dies down, we’ll get an album that she really sat with and has more complexity.

I feel like she overcorrects a lot when hearing criticism and sometimes it really works (red not sounding cohesive so she made 1989) but more often than not it comes off as inauthentic. Like just make art you want girl! (Like folklore and evermore)

Unfortunately I feel this is one of the reasons she gets along so well w/ Sabrina, who did the same thing to Olivia with her “responses” when Olivia never really said anything bad about “the other girl”. It’s shallow, immature, repetitive and cringey

I think you misinterpreted The Archer—she is saying her friends became her enemies (i.e. did something to betray her), and even though she has the archer/prey theme I didn’t get that she has examined why or how she contributed at all. I love Taylor’s music, but it’s pretty clear that she sees herself as a perpetual victim… so you have to interpret her music through that lens until she actually shows signs of growth.

the thing that icks me the most about fans blindly defending the album is the "it's a happy album" but so was reputation for the most part and the fandom ADOOORES this album/not so much the critics (rightly for both parts), it's just a boring album (with amazing production wasted) talking plainly about Travis, makes me truly sad
