I want to offer another perspective. Emotional regulation is, in many ways, a privilege. The ability to manage one’s emotions depends not only on learned skills but also on access to supportive environments, therapeutic resources, and stable relationships that foster safety and self-awareness. It is equally a privilege to have a nervous system that is not chronically in survival mode. For individuals whose bodies have been shaped by prolonged stress or trauma, regulation is not merely a matter of willpower but it is limited by a physiological state oriented toward protection rather than calm. Emotional regulation, therefore, reflects both access and nervous system capacity, not simply personal choice.

This is why churches, businesses and politicians like to get people into large groups, the individual becomes influenced by an implicit obligation to feel the way they believe the crowd feels, and feels validated as they mirror the crowds behavior.

It’s incredibly hard to regulate your emotions when your safety is threatened. When you are hungry, scared, sick without access to medical care, etc.— you cannot access higher level cognitive skills like emotional regulation. Survival.

Jordyn, there is an elephant in the room, your naysayers don’t want to acknowledge. Asian Americans, used to be terribly discriminated against even in interned in camps during WWII. However, “regulating your emotions” is more or less part of their culture, today, Asian Americans are more likely to be educated and successful than Americans of European descent. This checks out done ✅

Yes ma’am. 🫡 I have to step away for a bit and collect my emotions when I see something that triggers me. Then, I come back and address the facts. 👏

Your posts are great, but I question whether we “teach” people to not say “calm down”. I think the better solution is to teach people to pause do some self rejection. “Am I getting too emotional”?

Could you please confirm the requirement for ICE/law/police enforcement agents to identify themselves when requested right now? The coverage in Chicago & Portland particularly is terrifying. Are these actual agents? Would love to get the real facts.

it's always your own job to regulate your emotions, the world does not owe you understanding or forgiveness or your inability to control yourself. it's funny how it's always the one saying privilege and discriminatory are also the ones that have no idea what self accountability is
