I had to have my first rib removed b/c it was compressing into my subclavian vein blocking blood flow to my heart🩸🫀🩻& I was at risk of developing another deep vein clot and having another pulmonary embolism, which I would not have survived if I had a second one. First embolism happened in Dec 2024. They didn’t know what caused my blood clot until Sept 2025. Having the rib resection surgery was the only solution. YES it was insanely painful to experience & hurt like crazy to have this surgery, but nothing compares to the trauma my body experiences from having an embolism. I have 3-6 months of recovery❤️‍🩹 ahead of me because they had to saw out the bone through a transaxillary incision, which was under my armpit. The first rib is the smallest, but one of the strongest rib bones. It’s up by your neck. Very complex and risky surgery.
