@moonlit_kit: Adding on to the conversation from yesterday, thankfully the migraine has calmed down and my cramps are also finally lessening 🙌 hoping to get back to some semblance of normalcy soon #chronicallyill #chronicillness #disabled #disability #disabilityawareness
It’s the worst. The headache that follows a cry is unreal.

Hold on, pause. Wait. Do you mean to tell me that the massive migraine and subsequent multi-day/week flare up after crying or being particularly upset has a distinct cause beyond typical stressors and dehydration?

Wow… wow.. 😞 I’m 42, and this is so relatable to me. Caused me to cry- for only a millisecond- because I stopped it- haha 😂 Ty for speaking truth.

It worsens my headache and my eyes and face literally burn from my tears, it’s like acid. I hate crying!

big feel can trigger histamines (which cause the puffy face/eyes from crying) so that can cause it to hurt more. i've discovered this because i take allergy meds every day, and being able to cry without being in pain for days has been life saving ngl

I was brought up in a narcissist family, I wasn't allowed to feel my feelings. I had to be quiet if I needed to cry. I'm learning how to feel my emotions through therapy.

It’s so validating to hear someone else talk about this! It’s a unique challenge and I feel like most mental health professionals aren’t equipped to give advice about coping with it. For me, art has become a really important outlet.

It’s so hard with MCAS. I have it happen with ME/CFS. Any overexertion whether physical, cognitive, social or emotional can trigger post-exertional malaise (PEM) and makes you worse for weeks-years. At the very worst it can cause a baseline drop. Of course emotional exertion is the fastest to trigger PEM 🤦🏻♀️I’m 97% bedbound. I don’t have much baseline left to lose. Emotions are so dangerous.

I get symptoms when I don't feel my feelings, so I may as well try and feel and process them.

i see someone mentioned EFT and somatic exercises, which sound like a great start. Then at some point maybe EMDR. If approached correctly this combo could help to defuse those feelings in a way that is really healing but doesn't have to be so activating.

So much this. I finally had to have a breakdown last week and went into the worst flare up and was so confused as to why at first, then I was like “oh…that’s why.” And I’m talking like that was the worst flare up I’ve had in a loooong time, like my hEDS pain was unreal. I was just stuck in bed with all of my joints feeling like they were on fire.

I developed so many chronic issues doing many back to back calls with undersupported, upset students. I also suffered from chronic migraines through grad school and teaching. And now I’m cured … and very underemployed

Exactly. I have multiple cardiac arrhythmias (AFib RVR being the crappiest) that get triggered by MCAS activity and vagal irritation. Literally put myself into the cardiac ICU and needed cardiac surgeries due to big feelings.

there's just also no end to the feelings if I do let myself break down. like, i cried for several days straight and had to stop cause my body hurt, not cause i was done feeling

I haven’t worked in a year. I go to weekly somatic therapy. I’ve got nothing but time. I STILL have a ton of trouble feeling my feelings because of this. If I try to do too much, too fast - BOOM. Huge symptom flare.
