It shows the author is old school and well versed in our collective lore. That and “please excuse any grammar issues, English isn’t my first language” are the signs you’re about to be emotional destroyed by a top tier fic.

unfortunately with the binding and selling of fanfics, it makes sense that it had to be brought back. I think people need the reminder that fanfic at the end of the day still falls on a legal gray area.

Wait...there's a reason that disclaimer exists? I always found that disclaimer bothersome because yeah, we know you don't own Harry Potter Martha, I promise you we never even thought about, not one second. But I always thought that disclaimer was one of those pretentious things people do to feel their work is more formal than it is, never once I thought the disclaimer was a real and necessary disclaimer

I actually think it’s important that the reminders like this still exist. A lot of new people need that reminder that things like buying bound fanfiction is illegal because these authors don’t own the characters etc. and you can’t make money off of fanfic
