As an Australian recipient parent (10 weeks old today!) I understand that the only 2 things I KNOW about our donor is 1-he isn’t related to me, and 2-we are not carriers for the same big diseases. Everything else is read in good faith. We just didn’t have a known person we were comfortable to ask at the time. But after watching you, I think I would have talked with my husband a bit more about it…

what im wondering though is what's stopping a known donor from just lying directly to me instead of lying to me through the cryobank. I don't have any more power to pull his medical records than the cryobank does. 😭

We chose a bank that did genetic testing but we still did our own testing of the embryos because I do not trust the fertility industry one bit.

people cling so hard to the donor profile.. I found out so many lies.. including fake names, lying about heritage nationalities, medical information... only the essential information

Also, with most donors being so young, they may not be aware of their own family history! There are a lot of things families just don’t talk about until they come up. Slightly different situation, but I’m adopted. The man who contributed the genetic material lied blatantly on the few forms I do have about my ethnicity and his hobbies. I know the ethnicity was a lie because I got one of the DNA test done, and if he had been 3/4 Native American like he claimed, I would’ve had at least some. I had none. This makes me severely question his responses for medical. The only thing he wrote down was diabetes on one side. I also did get a chance to speak to my Birthmother, because of that DNA test, and she confirmed that none of that information was true.

I have had my pharmacological DNA done and I guarantee that gives me more information than anything you can get on a donor. This has always been about the money and never anything else

It's not the same, but I'm adopted and my family medical history from my father is basically just whatever he could remember at the time. So it's 35 years out of date, and mostly just him going "I think, but I don't know."
