I compliment if I like something or I feel maybe someone is sad or having a rough day hoping it might bring a smile to their face. If it was ever brought up to my face as a negative thing I’d just explain that the fact a compliment can be labeled “racist” bc it came from a white person is in fact RACISM. I don’t compliment yo make myself look good, like they ain’t nobody paying attention to what you doing. How would that make someone look good anyways? Who the hell cares anyways, I got more important shit to do with my time 🤣

I think this whole discourse has a lot of nuance. At its core it can be considered harmless, but I understand how it can come across as offensive because the topic of black hair is historically such a complicated/sensitive one. Guess it varies from person to person

but like i understand them because WHY are we using this audio… the audio is literally talking about white people being performative towards black people to benefit themselves which is what black people are saying this trend is. i think some people didn’t mean it in that way but i think as the trend got bigger it did become performative and black people started recognizing that. and under some videos the creator starting being racist when black people said it made them uncomfortable.

Okay the thing is the issue is every single time they want to “just compliment black people” it’s a trend it’s for a period of time and it’s clear people are doing the trend for brownie points. I don’t believe some blk people are being negative Nancy’s for any reason though😭 I believe some of the blk people not liking this trend don’t like it because they believe its an facade and also its just them keeping their guard up. You can’t blame them though. I’ve seen some incidents with this trend to where yt people had reverted to racism..so it’s not wrong for them to keep their guard up & think its a facade. But I do believe some yt people didn’t intend to mean any harm, and they shouldn’t be attacked. This is just my honest take.😭
