“You’re so lucky” Nope. I worked hard. It cost my jobs at interview having a social media platform. I’ve had other Nannie’s try and tear me down for having social media in the early days. I’ve got a lot of lives on social media, we and go right back to Orlando Disney days, where my life revolved around nannying 12hrs a day often abroad. Or moving back to London, I took a live in job, 6 days a week, 12hrs a day with a baby sit a week minimum. Etc etc. I knew for damn sure, I wasn’t prepared to give up my babies to work these jobs when I had my own. Nannying is a funny career, we don’t have much longevity, and some jobs are okay with accepting you plus your own children, but very few. Some agencies even encourage families taking more junior Nannie’s as they don’t have children over some with experience. “She wouldn’t have the baggage of her children” I believe the words were…. Many Nannie’s get made redundant on the spot when they tell employers they are pregnant and some agencies are aware of this, yet turn a blind eye in favour of the affluent families that pay their commission. I see Nannie’s with incredible experience and qualifications, left with nothing but pyramid schemes or other such things to provide for their families. The amount of new Nannie’s that come to my DMs asking for help on how to grow their pages is baffling as surely in almost 2026 we should have more resources for Nannie’s later in life it’s CRAZY. So yes, I am the Norland nanny that’s now a creator, but I’ve looked after myself and my babies for years, before they even existed. I walked away and got turned away from jobs, people scoff in my direction or eye roll at my presence here, but if at the end of the day…it means I can dress my babies in matching pjs, work with brands that I could only have DREAMT of, and stay at home whilst doing it. I think I’m the one who’s winning. My best advice to ANY new nanny, is think of future you, you in 10/15 years time, what is your “tomorrow”don’t just focus on today. Look after your future! That’s not to say social media, that could be property, a restaurant etc etc. but what’s NEXT. #norlandnanny #ukmums
