Changing the oil viscosity does NOT FIX IT

active fuel management is one problem. the small oil filter in the 6 liter v8

Every time those 6.2s come in they’re always over 1 quart low on oil

bad machine work and poor design using too tight tolerance for daily driving and thin oil

My Toyota tundra 5.7 v8 uses 0/20 and has 140k not any issues or noise. pull camper and 10k lbs boat. 🤔

I have a 2022 Silverado with a 2.7 turbo burning 2 quarts before I get to 3000 miles been doing it since bought new. Back and forth with Chevrolet and getting nowhere.

I think the 0w20 is for tighter bearing clearance and will provide better fuel economy

Let’s go back to basics. Straight 6, no power this power that and bring back the regular damn key ignitions.

My 2021 went down b4 the recall. Fortunately during the 2 months it sat waiting for a new engine the warranty hit and I did get covered. 107,000 miles. My new engine is 0w-20 still but it is noisy upon start up but does maintain the 10psi per 1k rpm. And does run good while driving

Penta Deuce :
People demand more power. This requires finer engine machining and precision. Which leads to needing thinner oils. That's just my understanding tho.

Yes. Bad machining shows how little tolerance there is. But a higher viscosity motor oil in an engine made right is still a good thing. Leaves room for extremes. Working the truck hard, engine oil thinning out. Lots of short trips where fuel dilution can be an issue etc. I still run 5w30 in N/A engines for peace of mind. And a 5w-30/40 oil in turbo motors with a HTHS of >=3.5.

299,000 on my 2002 Escalade 5w-30 lasted 20 years. I used grade 4 oil. All original engine. My opinion, newer engines are built very bad

my honda has 400k on 0w20. I believe gm didn't actually change any bearing tolerances and just put thinner oil in it to get the government tax cut.

the low viscosity is a problem along with manufacturing issues.

Mine started knocking in low end at 92K miles. Failed recall. check my latest video. Been at the dealer over a month now and GM still hasn't sent new engine.

They were just trying to bandaid the problem.

It’s because they are only putting thrust bearing on half of the engine. They only put it on the main caps and not on the block so then the crank rips the half of a thrust bearing out and then it wipes out everything. Baby max has the same problems.

0w20 is what’s killing all new engines in all manufactures. It’s simply for fuel economy not engine protection and longevity! 5w30/ 0w40 is the way to go! Also don’t go past 5K service intervals whatever your manufacturer recommends you better have it if you want to keep the vehicle out of warranty
