If you think you need to be checked into a psych ward it’s perfectly ok and preferred to go voluntarily. I don’t get why that’d be an issue, even if it’s for “just depression”. After I made an attempt on my life I voluntarily checked myself into the ward because I 100% was going to try again otherwise. People who worry about their mental health deteriorating to a point where they are a threat to themselves or others shouldn’t feel like they can’t go to the ward

i agree with you but mental hospitals *are* ranked lobbies. we used to sit around and tell stories of the "worst" things we've done. ive been ~3 times

They do need to do a better job of separating the people who are only a danger to themselves from the people who are a danger to others. They diagnosed me with PTSD then put me with individuals who would fight each other, scream, and trigger it. Keep them away from me.

When I went all the women were there cuz they broke up with their boyfriends + I was scolded for talking in group cuz my TBI story disturbed them.

I have jumped through morally dubious hoops to stay out of the psych ward. Sometimes it feels like “if you weren’t put in a psych ward your issues aren’t that bad “ but it’s not a vacation. If you end up there, you either really need to be there or you will swiftly realize you don’t.

It’s so insane to me because my family literally looks down on me like I’m one of the “crazy” ones due to my delusions and they avoid getting me help because they’re scared of me being admitted into the psych ward and going on meds. I envy people that can so easily get help without being judged.

psych wards in general are like the equivalent of getting surgery, like cannot be helped by just going to a visit or a medication. most people just need to go to the drug store for any thing they need. kinda the explanation that Ive heard before, its an important distinction

This I have never been willingly yes some people do go willingly and that’s fine but don’t judge people who have obvious/severe mental illnesses I have BPD, PTSD and DID and I am very mentally unstable because of it people like to judge but when I am admitted to the psych ward it is literally because I need to be there as much as I do not want to and yes my mental illnesses are going to show very clearly there because my mom sends me when I become a danger to myself and am having a very bad time mentally some girl got mad I was crying and yelling and I feel bad now because yes it was probably annoying but I was having a mental health crisis and didn’t ask to be there and all that girl getting upset at me in that moment did was make me more upset and made me angry because it was very clear I was not doing well mentally

people don’t understand that psych wards are only really good for if you are an immediate danger to yourself or others. like ppl will be like “i went and it made me worse” like yes bc you needed therapy not to be admitted

I somewhat agree with this. I think mental illness, or certain ones have been romanticized and other ones have been demonized. But I still think going to the psych ward voluntarily is valid. I do hate when I see the videos of people going and then mocking people there who are “really crazy”. Ive seen a few and they absolutely suck.

Also when people get sent for being a threat to others not themselves. Like that's literally part of the evaluation ofc people are going to be there for that reason

the other girls in my ward assumed I was in there for "mild depression" because I lied to others to hide exactly how bad my mental health was. even there, I was shunned and bullied, which made my already shattered mental health, worse. I don't think I fully recovered from my stay at the ward.

ad recommend residential treatment if you have a choice to be put somewhere and if it fits your struggles, it can be more long term but I went in voluntarily:) ir you can do PHP or IOP or one of us other options. if psych works for you thats wonderful but id recommend for treatment that has structure where a lot of psychs just cars that you're alive but not well

Some people can benefit more from impatient treatment even if you wouldn’t consider that condition as severe obviously the judgement of others with more severe conditions is unacceptable. However in places like Australia there were private psychiatric facilities designed for people with less harmful mental health behaviours who benefit from impatient

I “willingly” went to the psych ward but it was more like my therapist was telling me that I can go willingly or we can make this harder, and I saw the writing on the wall.
