I finally fulfilled a dream I’ve had for years by attending the @Tiramisù World Cup Grand Final in Treviso, Italy – about 30 minutes by train from Venice. Treviso is the home of tiramisu (it was invented here in the 1960s by a restaurant owner’s wife who wanted to create a pick-me-up after the birth of her son – which is exactly what “tiramisu” translates to!). Usually it’s a pretty quiet little town, apart from the one weekend a year when contestants from all over the world arrive to compete for the title of World’s Best Tiramisu. There are two categories: the “original recipe” (no alcohol allowed, apparently!) and the “creative” competition, where entrants can experiment with their own twist. And the best part? It’s open to anyone to compete – provided you follow the very strict rules – or you can even apply to be a judge. A whole day dedicated to eating tiramisu honestly sounds like heaven to me.
