As a OG wicked & Ariana fan, the people hating on the fans saying they ruined wicked obviously don’t know anything about the full story or Glindas character. we support complex/morally grey female characters until it’s Glinda right?

what elphaba said is true. Glinda, however, IS a character with layers. Shes so loved, shown so much attention, but still feels so alone because she’s not with the people she loves.

I think this scene highlights that while Glinda has her struggles, they in no way compare to the abuse and oppression faced by those around her. Glinda being privileged and entitled is what made elphaba hate her in the first place, it’s an obvious fact. Highlighting glindas own privilege allows her to contextualize her own issues while acknowledging that other people have it far worse than she does. This scene also reflects how Glinda actively contributed to how poorly people treated elphaba during their time at school, she has to face the music

Y’all, Wicked the Musical’s tagline is literally “The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz”. The movie is about Glinda AND Elphaba’s friendship. One should not be overshadowing the other. It’s about both of them. And I’ve been a fan since 2012. 😭

she was dismissed by those who mattered the most to her. even when she was handed what she wanted, she was dismissed. fiyero, elpheba, the wizard, etc. anyone she admired denied/didn’t believe in her. you can have privilege and still be a hard worker. that doesn’t make her any less deserving, which is essentially what elpheba is saying.

i think she reacted this way because she finally started to realize her privileged and make a change. yes she was a bully towards elphaba, and selfish and shallow. but she experienced tough love and began to grow.

she is privileged, but her feelings are valid. Let's be real. And to that one person complaining about this being an Elphaba moment turned into a sad Glinda edit, stop it. People focus on different things. Mostly things that they relate to, caught on to, or just noticed. It's not wrong- It's just them looking at things from a different perspective or FROM a different person's perspective

I adore the fact that it was finally adapted but geez this new wave of discourse is insufferable. Glinda is privileged yes we know. That doesn’t mean people can’t make posts dealing with her complexity. It’s an objective fact that Glindas character has the biggest shift in the story so why can’t people point that out. Nobody is erasing Elphaba’s stardom. She is and will forever be the main character. I’d argue that going under Glinda specific post and making it about Elphaba is hypocrisy. For example y’all would get mad if it was a Fiyero post and people started talking about Glinda primarily. Why are we putting these characters against each other? The WHOLE point is that they all benefit from knowing each other.

i mean sure she’s valid to feel it’s hard, but she IS extremely privileged. that is like the whole point of glindas character. she so effortlessly will get anything she wants, including choosing magic and working for the wizard (who she knows is corrupt) over her friend that she’s built something beautiful with, and continues to have her “magic” handed to her. she can be a likeable character, but the attention being driven away from elphie is like… proving the movies point 😭😭😭😭

Literally two seconds after this, Glinda emotionally manipulates Elphaba into apologizing for what her magic did. The victimization of her has to stop.

two things can coexist at once. galindas emotions were dismissed often bc of the live she was placed in and the privilege she had. her emotions were always valid BUT. BUUUTTT. she is one of the MOST privileged people in all of OZ and she will never and has never had it as hard as elphaba or most other people. she is the embodiment of white/pretty privilege. and she in part 2 is the perfect example of how to use it “for good”. her and elphie both WANTED good. but elphaba had nothing to lose by jumping out that window and standing up for what she believed in. Galinda had everything to lose and cared toooo much about the society that fed her so well to give it up for what was right. in part 2 she learns to use her power for good and do exactly what elphie always wanted to do but never could bc she was demonized for who she was. galinda is the embodiment of white/pretty privilege and how it can be used “FOR GOOD”. but it doesn’t take away from the fact that her life has ALWAYS been handed to her and she’s only has had to really work when it involves doing the GOOD thing not the EASY thing!

This is why I take issue this portrayal and why I’m glad they left the scene out of the movie. This victimization/infantilization of Glinda is sooo irritating. She is ultimately redeemable but spends most of the story being a privileged bully who actively participates in oppressing people who are different from her to gain power even though she knows it’s wrong.
