Throwing it back to this inspirational lightness on an anxiety inducing day 😳🇺🇸 A healthy ecosystem is made stronger and more resilient from diversity, and our society functions the same way. Just as each species of tree, shrub, moss, animal, bacteria or fungi plays a role within functioning ecosystems, so too do all of us within society. Different ideas, thoughts, beliefs, roles, etc - everything and everyone has a place here, and the more diversity we have the more able we are to adapt to changes that come our way. Nothing happens in isolation, nothing can exist without the other, no one is more important than another, and everyone is required for the system to function, flourish and thrive. Monocultures don’t exist in nature because they’re not natural and they’re not sustainable - they always collapse. In the same way, systems of oppression or division within our society both locally and globally are not natural or sustainable, and are bound to collapse. Just as arrogant forestry practices seek to remove deciduous trees because they are seen as detrimental to the growth of conifers, the powers that be try to divide our society across arbitrary values when in reality, its the differences between us that make us all stronger. It doesn’t matter what your skin color may be, your background, race, religion, gender, job, who you vote for, who you choose to love or what you put in your body - at the end of the day, we are all united by our differences, and it’s those differences that make our society stronger, more resilient and more adaptable in a changing world. We will never be able to tackle issues as daunting as climate change until we are able to address these larger systemic issues, until we abolish racism, classism, misogyny, bigotry or any division of any kind. Instead of trying to force an unhealthy, unnatural ‘monoculture’ mindset onto both our societies and the environments we live in, let’s take a cue from nature and embrace diversity because not only is it healthy, but it benefits everyone, and it’s downright beautiful. 🌲✊🏿✊🏽✊🏻🌲 #dei #diversity #ecology #nature #equity #inclusion #wisdom #division #donthate #Love #❤️ #vote #america
