Because Patroclus ruined the original plan to save Briseis, if that plan had succeeded, there's no way Achilles wouldn't have fought for Greece. I hate the ambiguity of Patroclus vs Briseis so much. But Patroclus is too far-fetched, when he killed Zeus' son, I thought he was crazy and then climbed up to Troy. I don't understand why everyone blames Achilles. He was so angry that he didn't kill Agamenon, if he didn't come to apologize, how could Achilles swallow his anger and fight? He's also the strongest person, but he was insulted like that. I think it's mostly Patroclus's fault. Patroclus is so kind that he's stupid, sacrificing a Briseis for a plan that would keep the army intact with no casualties is worth it.
