@kierajerri: develop your eye. it’s one thing to recognize something you like and another to understand why. aesthetic is not a descriptor!! And vibe is vague. let’s use our words 🙂↕️
Let’s all develop our vocabulary together shall we?

You’re right, let me give it a try: green is my favorite color. Green makes me feel calm. I’m from Florida, so everything is green, year round. Green makes me feel at home and thus at peace. I feel like everything looks better when it has a pop of green. It makes a room/picture/outfit/anything otherwise dull, full of life. It makes a room/picture/outfit/anything otherwise chaotic, peaceful. You just can’t go wrong with green! It’s both grounding and full of life.

My theory is that people are scared to voice the actual reason because we are scared to be perceived as being “too serious” or are not comfortable presenting our true selves to everyone

Lemme try: I like fictional books! Books that reveal complex emotions, people and experiences that self help books try to communicate. I feel like a character in a fake world, and the characters are people i know.

THIS! As a product designer I can’t tell you how annoying it is to hear people flatten things to “vibe” or “aesthetic”

This is exactly why I’ve started annotating the books I read! I want to know what I like and why I like it so I can find art in other mediums that remind me of whatever book on a thematic level.

But also!! And hear me out… there are so many non-English words that describe the essence of a feeling and I fear that… our English system of grammar is… lacking in description.

thank you!! describing why you like it is basically articulating how it makes you feel and if you can’t do that then i’m convinced maybe you don’t actually like said thing

I love descriptive people so much. I often get told I’m very specific even in my compliments sometimes, I want you to know exactly why I like whatever I like
