When you’re anxiously attached, attention equals safety. So when they’re affectionate, responsive, and present, your nervous system relaxes… finally, I’m safe. But when they pull back, get busy, or go quiet? That same nervous system panics. It tells you something’s wrong. That you’ve done something to make them lose interest. You start overanalyzing texts, questioning yourself, maybe even changing your behaviour just to get their attention back. But that cycle doesn’t bring real peace, it just keeps you stuck depending on external validation to feel okay. Here’s what helps you break it: 1. Notice the pattern. Awareness is the first step, “My mood just shifted because I’m not getting attention right now.” 2. Ground yourself before reacting. Take a few deep breaths, journal, or move your body before reaching out, this helps your brain return to safety. 3. Give yourself the reassurance you keep seeking. Try saying, “I’m still safe. Their silence doesn’t define my worth.” 4. Rebuild inner stability.
