you’ll be perceived anyway, HAVE FUN HAHAAA…As a kid, I remember needing to see that another boy liked the way a heel felt over a boot. That my hips were could sway a little further than usual. When you’re a child, you play, find your interests, explore hobbies, and make mistakes to create the person you’ll be in the future. This comes later to queer identities, because as a child, those aspects of self development are denied or stunted, due to risk of rejection/ exclusion. In consequence, queer folk build that character and integrity later on in life. Making those childish mistakes as adults, finding our genuine interests, AS ADULTS, and what we feel comfortable wearing and presenting, AS ADULTS. It’s a daunting, mentally taxing, and dangerous process that’s very misunderstood. Most queer individuals struggle to conceal their contrast to the masses, and what most don’t understand is that their vibrancy is NOT attention seeking, it’s something we genuinely cannot hide. Hiding requires an act of force/ suppression which being straight does not. I’d consider that evidence it is not performative. We INEVITABLY stick out because our energies don’t align with whats usually seen socially. Again, that visible difference is NOT a choice, it occurs naturally as a manifestation of queer energy. We end up having to learn how to grow into the energy we are born with, because there will be ridicule REGARDLESS of how we choose to exist, whether that be quietly or grand. That loud gay person doesn’t just want your attention, they learned that they will be stepped on when quiet, so they created a large presence as a way to protect themselves. The expression of a queer life tends to be creative, it tends to be colorful with emotion and art, but never malicious. I remember those who helped me. I’d be up at 3am quietly dancing around, trying on dresses, and watching queer creators/artists live in their truth. They were unapologetically present, made their own space, and didn’t walk, but strutted with vigor. They helped me see I could eventually achieve that level of self realization at all times of the day, not just when the world was sleeping. It saw it was POSSIBLE that one day I wouldn’t have to lie, and that’s on REPRESENTATION! We aren’t in your face. We aren’t here to be a show for straight people. We don’t go out of our way to be obnoxious entertainment. It’s not FOR YOU. It’s NOT rooted in vanity, as many think we are acting out for attention. It’s rooted in the preservation of our youth, and showing there’s a place in society for them and their beautiful expression! Their joy! Their art! We are here! You will be ok living in truth! My dance, my outfits, my smile, my voice, is all curated, yes, curated, in hopes to be that representation I once needed. Bring out that inner artist. Help anyone I can live in truth. We NEED to see each other thrive, it creates a butterfly effect, paths for others. Representation created mine. (This is just my perspective, I cannot speak for all voices!) #smile #ladygaga
