Are we broken or are we just broke?
Between COVID and the insane cost of going to the cinema, I think we may just be broke...

We are not broken, we are broke! Consider what it cost for a family of 4 to go to the movies. Before you buy a snack you are looking at $60-$80 (average of the $15-20 per)

"we have trained ouselves". this theory that the audience as individuals are responsible for the society wide shift away from cinema and towards other sources of entertainment doesn't make any sense to me. even if cost of living wasn't a factor, people are choosing YouTube and tiktok over the cinema because of convenience.

This is simple, people are poor. I think we underrate how much the current economy effects how people choose to spend their money

A lot of it is to do with cinema etiquette, people don’t wanna pay extortionate prices to see a film just to have somebody talk or check their phone constantly. People watch at home now, normally on the firestick so these films don’t generate any money at all.

I think cinemas and films lack innovation. New actors, producers, new concepts etc. Alot of movies these days feel recycled. The cinema hasn't evolved enough either, more 4d screens or emersives rooms, add theatre and live actors?! In a world where everyone has multiple screens it sadly needs a better USP.

The problem is with todays movie theatres. They are expensive, noisy, uncomfortable seating and cold. I rather stay at home. Steaming TV is the new movies the quality is still there but they are going to run into trouble if the keep price gouging subscriptions and adding commercials, it will end up like expensive cable.

Any thoughts on a third option between product and auction: The Market? I’m no expert, but does the insane plethora of choice and accessibility (compared to the prior lack) explain why Hitch makes what we’d now call an absurd amount of money for its genre?

Maybe people didn’t stop liking good films ,they just stopped liking being the audience. The algorithm turned everyone into the main character. We used to go to the cinema to feel something together, now we film ourselves feeling watched. Good movies seem “boring” now because there’s no trend to film or make content out of. People don’t watch stories anymore and people talk more about actors than stories. It’s not about the film anymore , it’s about making content from the film, turning every moment back toward ourselves.

Also major blockbusters like Superman were already available for streaming around 3 months after the release. I know some people who would wait for that rather than go to the cinema. Maybe its about exclusivity

On the same topic, Dune Prophecy. It's an insane dumbing down of the two films and books. They spell the entire motivations and plots and nuances within that universe to our faces because I'm assuming they'd be too scared of the audience 'not getting it'. that show truly was a disappointment and would love to see U make a vid talking about it

There are so many options now, too. People are spoiled for choice. Couple that with not wanting to deal with people not being considerate in a cinema, I fully understand how we ended up here

I love films, but i hate going to the cinema. People are talking, eating, scrolling, without any respect for the people around them... In the past I loved cinema and watching with people and enjoyed it together, but in the last 10 years I watch them at home or, if I have the opportunity, in art cinemas where people still come for a film.
