Túrin Tuesday ✨ Another part of me reading my favourite passages from Tolkien’s works (an excerpt from Túrin’s childhood in The Children of Húrin). Túrin is a character I relate to deeply. Here’s why: his description as a child feels as though Tolkien were describing me when I was little. I showed, and still display, the same characteristics, and on top of that, I feel as if my life is cursed. Of course, Túrin made a lot of mistakes, but so have I. I think much of his disastrous behaviour stems from his traumatic childhood (maybe even combined with an autistic brain 🤔). I can’t really blame him for anything, not even his advice to Orodreth not to destroy the bridge to Nargothrond. I think that advice came from fear: he wanted to control and actively confront the danger rather than hide, not knowing what might happen in the future. I understand that. I also constantly try to control and plan everything around me because it soothes my anxiety. So yes, I’m really fond of Túrin. He was a complicated mess, but at his core, I believe he was a sweet person, and I often wonder how his life might have been if his family hadn’t been cursed by Morgoth himself. #tolkien #silmarillion #lordoftherings #tolkientok #middleearth
