@misssalinas: Cactus to Clouds to Cactus aka C2C2C 🌵☁️🌵 30+ miles, 11,000+ ft up, 11,000+ ft down, zero sleep, and a healthy amount of delusion. You start from the desert floor in Palm Springs to San Jacinto Peak (10,833′), then all the way back down to the desert again. Type 2 fun at its finest. We didn’t start strong. At the trailhead, Ruby realized she didn’t have her shoes. We ran to Ross, 9:30 pm, right before closing and boom, a pair of Hokas in her size. We hadn’t even started and we were already fighting for our lives. Then came her food bag. Left in the car. Then her shell. Also in the car. At that point, we surrendered to chaos as part of this adventure. (By the way, Ruby never forgets anything.) Somewhere around 10,000 ft, the no sleep + altitude combo hit me hard. I usually handle it fine, but this time it was rough. I took a short nap inside the little house at the summit, resurrected myself, and ran all the way down to the range station like nothing happened. Everything was fine and then came the final 10 miles. The kind of miles that make you question your existence. A maze of fun misery. I’ve done 30+ miles before but these hit different. IYKYK. Descending felt endless. I found myself saying F U to the mountain more than once. My legs were done, my mind fading, and the hallucinations were real. I’m pretty sure I saw a few creatures cheering or mocking me. Hard to tell but they were cute. 16 hours 30 minutes later, we did it. If you ever think about doing Cactus to Clouds to Cactus… don’t. Take the tram. Be happy. But if you insist, bring grit, lots of fuel and caffeine, and a sense of humor. You’ll need them all. #c2c2c #sanjacintopeak #ultrarunner #ultratrail
