Even if kids aren’t actually going hungry, which hopefully they aren’t, MANY of them will probably be eating differently than what they’re used to, and that can also be a reminder of the financial situation their family is in, or the money for food could come from having to give up other things

Worksheet for the kids that got in arguments or fights: Q1 date and time of incident Q2 when was the last meal you had and what was it Q3 questions on how they feel currently Q4 why they felt that argument happened Q5 if they were you the teacher how would they have broken up or defused the situation then offer them a snack and say if you fill that out it adds a point onto your grade

The biggest revelation I've had this week when confronting this is just how much people are struggling. Admittedly, my household way out earns the median income, but we have been struggling to afford a house and have felt really down about that. It humbled me very quickly to learn how many Americans are living in legitimate poverty, barely making it day to day. Our social safety nets were extremely thin and still people had to rely on basically just a tightrope, not even a net 😭 Now, even though we have the money sitting somewhere, the tightrope is gone too.

I worked at a school where kiddos that even had snap still barely could eat at home. And we found when we fed them, they thrived. So for sure this will affect EVERYTHING 💔😭😭😭😭

I’m sending in groceries for the teacher to send home with struggling kiddos in my son’s class bc I can’t accept this reality for them. We’re noooooot rich at all but I can’t let it happen even on my tight budget. I can’t imagine having the world at your fingertips and watching people starve intentionally

As someone who was literally starved as a child being hungry is a trigger, I never realized how bad and in different times of my life I’ve had different levels of “hangry “ but this snap stuff (and I’m on snap atm) has really made me anxious and angry. I’ve already been slowly making my plates smaller so I have more to give my daughter.
