The term Creole means French people born outside of France. Because of slavery and colonization, Creoles were considered French. Not of French descent but actual French citizens. Simply living in another country/colony. Signed, professor and New Orleans native.

Well first, that most are Native American words, some are French some are Spanish. New Orleans is a great mixture of all three of these cultures.

A lot of those are Indigenous words lol. Ironically we tend to pronounce the Native words more accurately and the French words with our own twist (creole)
