people forget the value of time. I've sold some homemade items before. if you are making everything on your own (pie crust, icing, cake, decorations, etc) you have to include your hourly rate. on top of ingredients. that's what makes things cost so much. I charged less per hour because I knew I wasn't as fast as larger bakeries that made things in bulk, but I still charged for time. that makes sense to me
