I have a client who always tries to entrap me. He'll ask me a question that seems like small talk, but he'll use it to put me in a position where I have to either provide personal details or else tell him it's too personal--in which case I get a long rant. Every convo with him is exhausting. He watches my subtlest reactions soooo carefully. Gawd and he always tells me the same stories over and over and over and over, and even that feels like he's trying to make me agree that something completely reasonable is actually unfair. Every word I say can and will be wielded against me

A huge tell for me is when they twist definitions or downright invent their own. They change the meaning of words to fit their narrative. It’s like dictionary is not an authority for them

for me I notice people who consistently talk positively about themselves but only have negative things to say about others, or they compare themselves in a way to one-up someone else completely unprovoked. I've also seen where they will actively be vindictive to someone and stalk them for years after an incident occurs.

I notice narcs cuz they notice me. They really want to suck up all my energy and figure me out because I end up playing their game too well somehow. I always end up their target. Thankfully over the years, I’ve learned that it’s not friendship they want though.

the big thing I notice is you cant ever suggest anything to them. If they ask you a question about your opinion and you don't agree/praise them they shut down the conversation. Also the main phrase I always hear is "don't worry, you're taken care of" I've heard it from bosses, family members, friends, they LOVE to tell you to not put in any effort, leave control to them.
