Last year, WilsonHaus Rescue and @Gifted Equine traveled to Texas to save horses from the sl@ughter trade industry.  While we were there, we found two dogs dumped - hungry, seeking help and out of options.  We couldn’t turn our backs. WilsonHaus took Toni, and The Gifted Equine took Piper. Piper was taken straight to the vet. She was vaccinated, brought up to date on everything, and we were assured she was spayed.  We truly believed we had checked every single box. Four days ago, Piper gave birth to ten puppies.  Ten tiny, innocent lives we weren’t expecting - and now Piper is fighting for her own. 💔 She’s been diagnosed with a retained placenta, a condition that can quickly turn septic and fatal without immediate surgery. She’s currently at the emergency vet awaiting a life-saving procedure. This situation has been devastating - not only emotionally, but financially. We believed we had done everything right, and yet here we are, facing one of the hardest rescue curveballs we’ve ever had to navigate. Prevention has always been a cornerstone of WilsonHaus Rescue. It’s why we fund and advocate so strongly for spay and neuter initiatives in high-need areas - because this is exactly the kind of suffering we’re fighting to prevent. To know that we took all the right steps and still ended up here is deeply disheartening… but as rescuers, we can’t stay stuck in the problem. We have to focus on the solution. And solution number one is making sure Piper makes it home to her babies. Thanks to a generous $2,000 donation from @wicksfurchange, we’ve already begun chipping away at her $8,000 estimate. We still need to raise $6,000 to cover her surgery, recovery, and the supplies to bottle-feed all ten puppies while she heals. We know this community is full of heart. It’s unpredictable, emotional, and full of moments like this - moments where heartbreak meets hope.  But when we choose to keep showing up anyway, we create miracles.
