We had a party line. To mute me, I unscrewed the mouth piece, slowly remove the handset off the receiver and listen to people talk. 🫶✌️

I had one in my garage until it wouldn't work correctly, the sound was bad & you couldn't hear all the words. That phone was approximately 50yo & it had to be replaced 5yo with our first push button phone.

This phones where made by Western Electric and where built like tanks. Adults, Teenagers would Slam the phone down and they never broke.
