Christopher Roberts :
This is crazy. Bittersweet Symphony is probably one of the best songs ever written—and sounds nothing like the Stones song

huh it's weird since in lithuania this melody is known as a folk song "bitute pilkoji" or a dance "malūnėlis". I was always thrown off hearing it in bittersweet symphony

Homage. Not theft. Made the Stones look very small.

Glad they got the credit in the end, it's a 1000x time better than the last time.

Nah the best music theft is if you look into the deep history of Eric Prydz’s Call on Me

klein was a nasty character and to this day, the rolling stones still don't own the catalogue from their early releases.

The guy realized it was going to big and then pulled the rug from under them. If The Verve didn’t have the buzz, the old geezer probably wouldn’t have cared.

This is not true. They were not sued because the owner claimed they copied the vocal melody. They got permission to use that now famous 12 note sample, but were sued because they overused it throughout the song by looping it and making it the backbone of the song.

Joe Satriani sued Coldplay in 2008 over Viva La Vida claiming it sounded like his If I Could Fly and listening to them both there’s only a section in If I Could Fly that I’m guess he sued for that sounds likes Viva La Vida

🇨🇦 I LOVE THIS SONG!!! and I was absolutely distressed to hear that they were sued and I’m absolutely over the moon to hear that Mick Jagger and Keith Richards did the right thing. How wonderful of them

Rolling Stones "borrowed" the lyrics from The Staple singers - This may be the last time (1961) which makes the law suit even worse. culture always builds on the past (reference: Rip a Remix manifesto)

it's the same chords so a melody made with chord tones will sound similar most of the time

Funny how no one mentions the staple singers when it comes to this.
