The series is set in the gothic, surreal world of Death City, where the Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA), led by the mysterious and eccentric Shinigami (Lord Death), trains young students to battle evil and maintain the balance of the world. At the heart of this story are pairs consisting of “meisters” and “Demon Weapons” — humans capable of transforming into weapons — with the ultimate goal of turning their weapons into powerful “Death Scythes” by consuming 99 corrupted souls and one witch’s soul.
