@so_jessie_studio: Long winded post. First sharing the chickadee. Second let’s talk pricing and how to sell… never fun and slightly complex. My goal in doing all of this is to share and be transparent about what it’s like to be passionate about making art and the entering into selling my pieces. I would truly appreciate all of your feedback. Price. Value. Approach and platform to sell. This could be brutal or I’ll get good feedback. Let’s see what happens! I’d also love to hear from other artist who have been doing this little longer than myself! #artist #sellingart #makingart #birds #crafting

I don’t think you’re giving yourself enough credit by calling yourself a “hobby artist”. We’re artists. Period. And if someone respects you and your work as an artist, they’re going to pay you what you believe you should be paid for your time, materials, and idea! Something I know I struggle with but am learning to push since my work is worth it! Don’t deprive yourself of what you deserve just to make someone else happy. 🥰 Know your worth!! 🙌🏻

I like ebay, but I never think of it for quality hand crafted items. Etsy seems more in line with valuing artistic products. The birds and houses are amazing and the time and energy you put in deserves compensation. I think $225. is an excellent price.

I like the eBay option. And I think the price point you’re at is fair.. if you set a price and do buy it now option they’ll still all be gone probably within an hour.

Also, I dont think the pricing between $175 - $220 sounds unreasonable at all. but I think if you go through Etsy/Ebay you'll need to go a bit higher to cover the percentage the take, or set a higher buy now price. You have an original, handcrafted product, so don't cut yourself short. Those that appreciate quality and handcrafted items won't complain about the price.

Honestly I think they’re worth so much more than that! $500 for a collector’s market — think high end retail. I would be willing to let them sit and simmer for a bit if needed. They’re stunning!!!

I think $200 is the MINIMUM amount you should ask for these. The tools alone that are required to make these are expensive and not easily accessible (ahem, kilns). Also, how many years have you crafted to get to this point? All of that time and experience is valuable. I LOVE these and I’m hoping to be able to buy one! Any platform works!

I had kind of assumed off your other work pricing on Etsy that these would be priced around 150. That’s low compared to some of the other comments and to what chatGBT gave you. I think, for me at least, (which you’re not beholden to at all) for a higher price point I would love the ability to pre-order so there wouldn’t be the worry of selling out of one that I particularly loved and/or have the chance to collaborate on a few of the details like color or bird type. That’s just me though- they’re absolutely darling and you’ve gained a follower regardless.

First of all, I want to say I love your work! But to reply to your question, not only do you want to get the most money however the buyer wants to pay the least amount and get the most value. Having said that I vote for Etsy. It has a certain nostalgia associated with it artist rather than a quick sale reputation like eBay does, for example. My husband sells handmade crafted wood bowls that he turns on the lace and we have had very good luck with people picking out the exact piece that they want after he has them and they were ready for purchase. Never had a problem with any shipping to our customers. I think you’re looking for a certain clientele and you’re not going to find that on eBay … IMHO

Thanks for sharing, as an artist myself, the struggle with price is always so stressful. Maybe do a few on Etsy and a few on EBay as a test to see which works better. I think some people are still learey of EBay, but maybe that changed in recent years. I also think the $225 range is more than fair :) these are one of a kind and something that can be passed down for generations…take a breath and make the right decision for you on your time.. you got this girl ( also not too add more stress maybe think about trademarking your idea, this idea is brilliant and people will try and steal it)💙

Etsy takes 10% at the end of the day. I think Etsy is the right platform for your product. And price where you’re comfortable—the right buyers will find you at whatever your price point. Consider the time, resources, and experience it took you to get here to make them. And don’t forget shipping costs if you offer “free shipping”

I’ve been sharing your updates with my father, who loves these kinds of handmade items. He’s interested in purchasing and has been on eBay since the 90s, but he’s also familiar with Etsy!

eBay has a perception of being less trustworthy. Etsy seems to make sense. Be sure to charge for your craft and time but also charge for uniqueness and your creativity.

Is it allowed to collect your payment through Venmo? A roadside farmstand in our area collects payment this way. Just a thought.
