It feels like the hive mind simply collected all of their memories. The hive isn't acting on their current interests, it simply has access to their past. I find myself questioning why the hive never uses the expertise of every therapist on earth to understand Carol's struggles with the death of Helen. I think it's because it only has a textbook recording of all humanity, but not the individual will to make decisions to do anything meaningful with that information

What I find interesting is that the virus really really wants to achieve a 100% “mortality” rate. Natural viruses really don’t do that because it deprives them of hosts. There was a throwaway line in EP1 where one of the scientists opines, “Their transmitter must be the size of Africa to have that signal reach us. Who would build something like that?” It makes me think this is some sort of precursor to an actual invasion.

I think this is a good point. We’ve seen that they can’t actively lie but they definitely still seem able to put on the face that serves them best
