We can gain isometric strength very quickly, but how limited is it? Some studies have shown that the strength transfer is greatest within 20 degrees of the trained angle. While there is some variance depending on the muscle, the transfer gets lower the further away we get from the angle. We can gain isometric strength very quickly, but how limited is it? Some studies have shown that the strength transfer is greatest within 20 degrees of the trained angle. While there is some variance depending on the muscle, the transfer gets lower the further away we get from the angle. This is interesting and here are some ways this can be very useful for us: This can be very "functional" for us, as there is an isometrics component to almost any movement you do. For example, the ability to isometrically maintain a neutral spine helps a lot in both weightlifting and calisthenics. The "20 degrees" is usually referring to isometric strength. It can potentially help a lot more for movement. Even if you have very low interest in isometrics, this can help you with "sticking points" of your dynamic lifts - these will usually be the bottleneck anyway. If you don't know a sticking point, then try practicing the launch position. These should have the most transfer to your dynamic movements. If you want, look up a visual or a study on which muscles work the most at different parts of a movement. I find it interesting how even "simple" movements are actually an orchestration and sequence of smaller movements (like a pullup using lats more at certain points, arms more at others, and often more mid back at the very top). And OF COURSE I'm not saying you can or should replace your movements with isometrics. You don't have to train isometrics at all. I try to say this every video because there are always a few new people. I just find them to be an interesting tool in our toolbox, and they're already used strategically across many sports and disciplines. Have a wonderful day! #hybridcalisthenics
