@thereptilezoo: When we’re working at the zoo we get to see all sorts of crazy things 😳 Today we even saw a leech pooping! Believe it or not these little guys are way more fascinating than people give them credit for. Sure they’re famous for being bloodsuckers but that’s only part of the story. There are around seven hundred known species of leeches worldwide and here’s the wild part they have thirty two body segments each with its own cluster of nerve cells kind of like mini brains 🤯 No wonder they are such efficient feeders. With all those segments working together they can stretch grip and navigate with surprising precision. That is a lot of brainpower to keep track of and it means they definitely need plenty of nutrients to keep going!
