I’m GenX and No Contact was SO COMMON in my experience, BUT it was The Parents Who Cut US OFF!!! They threw us out of the home and out of the family ALL THE TIME. If we didn’t follow their religion, if we dated someone who was our same gender or of a different race or ethnicity or nationality, if we pursued a career they disapproved of, if we moved to a location that inconvenienced them, if we Prioritized Ourselves AT ALL - Parents Cut US OFF. It’s OLD, not new… it’s just that the tables have turned!!! I’m HERE for it. We are not their pets. We are allowed to prioritize having a healthy, peaceful, prosperous life, and WE get to define what that looks like FOR OURSELVES. 💕

Not everyone is a victim. Not every estrangement is because the parents did something so horrible that you need to stop speaking to them. Younger generations rather not communicate their feelings as adults, instead, they cut off all communication. That’s isn’t always good for their mental health either. Social media has a lot to do with this.

Oprah went no contact with an uncle that abused her. She told a story of him in her kitchen and her serving him food and had a wake up moment. People are walking away from abuse and to frame it as disagreements is intentionally misleading.

I went no contact before I knew it was like a thing people were doing. Social media had no effect on me doing it, and it had everything to do with childhood abuse

I cut my abusive mother off… I was better for it. She died a few years ago and that grief was hard to process as there’s no resolution to the relationship….. I don’t regret it but beware of the grief you will have when they pass
