Late last summer/autumn time I herniated a disc in my back. It was INCREDIBLY painful, and it meant that I couldn’t do ANY exercise at all. For quite a long time in fact! I couldn’t dress myself properly, could barely walk and work was a real struggle. What I tried my best to do however is to not catastrophise about the situation and focus on what I could do and what I couldn’t do. ▫️I stuck to the rehab exercises that were prescribed to me. ▫️I walked as much as I could… For my mental health as much as physical! ▫️I signed up to a gym that had machines. This allowed me to maintain strength whilst taking load off the lower back. ▫️I kept as positive as I could considering the situation at hand. ▫️I had an AWESOME community of people always asking how I was and if it’s getting any better. Within a couple of months of doing these things daily, I started to notice changes… I could use more kit in the gym. The ski erg being one of them! I then slowly introduced barbell exercises with super low load. Before I knew it, I was back out for a run. Possibly the hardest bit of this whole process was not being able to do this! Fast forward 3/4 months, I recently did a comfortable back squat of 150kg and a half marathon in 1:36 in the same weekend. I deadlifted 180kg for reps the following week and hit some running intervals. I also NEVER said that I wouldn’t do any heavy lifting ever again. I believed in the rehab process, and stuck to my values. The result is, I’m on track to be stronger than ever before, and still within reaching distance of my running goals. If you’re injured right now, then it doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll never be able to do the things you love doing. Trust in yourself and the process of getting better, and you’ll be back where you were in no time. 🏋️‍♂️🏃🏻‍♂️ - #liftruncoach #liftrun #rehab #injury #powerlifting #Running #squat #benchpress #deadlift #runner #run
