The players aren't willing to make less so shortening the season is out of the question. Make home teams play back to back like baseball

Baseball’s resurgence has a lot to do with rule changes like the pitch clock. Basketball needs a similar change that will address the increase in free throw attempts. Maybe an option to shoot them or retain possession.
