@fubarpac: That one time when President Trump pardoned former Honduran President Juan Orlando Hernandez to get on the good side of his far-right tech bro allies. When Trump announced last week that he would be handing down a pardon of Hernandez, those who believed Trump’s anti-dr*g trafficking tirades were shocked at his sudden change of heart. Trump claimed that Hernandez was unfairly targeted by the Biden administration, and that he was set up by the traffickers he had imprisoned. During Hernandez’ trial, it was revealed that the former president had orchestrated an extensive dr*g smuggling operation including giving military-grade weapons like grenade launchers to the cartels. Hernandez also accepted a $1 million bribe from cartels and bragged about shoving dr*gs up “Gringos noses.” Coverage of the pardon has focused on the hypocrisy of the Trump administration, but the truth of this issue goes much deeper. Earlier this year, longtime Trump advisor Roger Stone published a blog calling on Trump to pardon Hernandez so that he might regain power in Honduras and save an experiment in tech bro paradise known as Prospera. Prospera, founded with funding from tech bros Peter Thiel, Sam Altman and others, operates on a small island in Honduras previously solely populated with an Afro-indigenous population. The city-state operates almost entirely independent of the country, including its own justice system in the form of 3 retired Arizona judges who rule via zoom. Locals are forced to fight for groundwater and deal with strained infrastructure while Prospera’s residents pay nearly zero taxes for basic upkeep on roads and bridges. When Prospera was created, they relied on then-president Hernandez to create special zones and set up a loose oversight organization which he loaded with his allies. Now that he is out of office, the liberal government has begun asking questions about Prospera, complaining about their lack of investment in the region, and have attempted to back out of agreements that require them to pay significant fines if the community fails. As the Honduran government turned against Prospera, the founders spent half a million dollars in the US to buy support from elected officials, urging them to sanction Honduras and deny visas to its politicians. Now, it appears they are banking on the election of a Trump-backed conservative candidate to ensure Prospera can continue its uninterrupted plundering of the region.

Genuinely the most openly corrupt administration in modern US history. Its actually insane how many sandals and cases of interest has happened within just a year.

When I hear about these pardons, I just think about all the hard work, long hours, and personal risk involved in investigating and convicting these criminals, only to have it all be for nothing

The existence of Prospera is a fun fact I didn't expect. Thank you for lighting up another dark underbelly.

I...am STUNNED. I never heard of Prospera. I am an author and had to create a nation built upon an artificial island...and "Prospera" sounds like a country from an anime...as well as the corruption intertwined with it. But this is real... THIS is REAL? This...is real. I'm so sickend by the blatant corruption. And.. Why is Pete Kegsbreath and the Trump Administration unaliving fishermen in Venezuela again?

It’s truly mind blowing to me that propaganda has convinced tens of millions of people that liberalism is a left wing ideology when it’s literally a right of center form of government and economic theory. Like wtaf.

There are a lot of suspicious things going on with Neuralink that could be connected with this too. DOGE fired anybody who might have looked into it. Why are their labs right next to all the "alligators alcatrazes"? Why are all their patients posting weird stuff only on X after the surgery? Now we sound like the damn conspiracy theorists...
