I strongly believed in number 2 & 3 👇 1. “Your major/degree determines your career” You don’t have to pursue a career in the field you studied if it’s not what you want. Even if you’ve invested time and money, the transferable skills and perseverance you gain from your education are valuable assets that go beyond the specific subject matter. 2. “Once you land your dream job or make $X, you’ll be happy” I’m sorry to break it to you, but it won’t guarantee your happiness (I’ve been there). There are so many other factors at play—things like work-life balance, company culture, relationships, and doing meaningful work. Trust me, happiness doesn’t come from just the job title or paycheck. 3. “Job security is guaranteed in a salaried position” Even though a salaried job might seem stable & secure, it’s not always the case. Companies restructure, downsize, or change direction, which can lead to layoffs. To manage these uncertainties, it’s important to : -continuously update your skills -stay adaptable -& explore multiple income streams (build a side business or do freelance work) 4. “Entrepreneurship offers total freedom” Let’s be clear, being an entrepreneur or self-employed does offer more freedom than a salaried position, but this comes with a lot of pressure, responsibilities, and long working hours. I work more today than I did in my salaried position. So, if you’re thinking of leaving your 9-5 to be self-employed, believing you’ll work less, that’s not true. However, you’ll be working for your own dreams, and that can make all the difference! 5. “You can’t make a career change after that many years” Of course you can, no matter how many years you spent in one field. Many people successfully transition to new careers, bringing a wealth of experience and a fresh perspective. Don’t let the number of years you’ve spent in one career hold you back from pursuing something new. Which of these career myths have you encountered, and how did you overcome them? Let me know in the comments! ✨ . . #careeradvice #careergrowth #careermotivation #womaninbusiness #officeoutfit #womaninbusiness #corporatelife #corporategirlies
