When I expressed the same thoughts to my therapist she told me that it isn't my responsibility to think of the what ifs of a life that I've never and WILL never live. It gives us a weight that unconsciously shapes our thoughts and being that the child (us) was the burden or the fault due to the guilt of being born, when the parent was the sole decision maker of their own lives. Despite the 'consequences' of their decisions, it should never and SHALL never be the child who should bear the weight of such regrets, for the child is a separate being from the parent. The best recommendation she gave me was to live the life that was a 'possibility' for the parent but shall be an experience for us.
