When we are talking billionaires if they are not redistributing their wealth in aggressively strategic ways we need to apply pressure. They see these critiques and often choose to block and ignore vs. actually building community with experts in the space. @Jarrod Jenkins is EXCELLENT and it’s well beyond disappointing to see people like Phoebe Gate’s continue to utilize wealth hoarding tactics like asking for free work from those who built this space to begin with. I mean, you can’t even pay the man $5?! Acting broke and relatable is a wealthy person’s PR dream, but to quote Melinda herself “just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” Especially when the product itself isn’t up to par and you are very clearly pivoting from one original idea to the next from other women founders. That is not the behavior of a girls girl. And I am not talking into the void, Phoebe Gates watched my stories yesterday and blocked me from all platforms, but that doesn’t mean she isn’t still lurking. She lurks a lot on my page (and from the state of their start up, many, many others as well). The worst part is they believe they are entitled to the creativity and originality of others. They have been taught that is how business works. I can understand that, but by no means should we accept it. Billionaires are allocators of capital that get to choose not only what, but WHO gets to innovate. That should be a community project and healthy competition with proper resourcing (and the removal of other systemic barriers) has the potential to transform the landscape of how innovation shapes our society and culture. I, for one, would LOVE to see competition within a community, like a team. Where we aren’t incentivized to steal, copy and cheat, but provide a best in class experience for consumers. There is a real opportunity here and I hope Melinda & Phoebe recognize it. 🤍
