T-bar rows are actually two separate movements performed in sequence Part one: Release your shoulder blades completely. Let them spread apart at the top of the movement. Part two: Contract your shoulder blades back together, then drive your elbows back for the row. The scapula movement targets your traps and rhomboids for thickness. The elbow drive hits your lats and mid-back for width. When you release the shoulder blades, you're setting up the contraction. When you contract them back, you're building the foundation for the row. Then the elbow drive completes the movement pattern. This sequence works for T-bar rows, dumbbell rows, cable rows, and any rowing variation. The scapula control is what separates effective rowing from just moving weight around. Release, contract, row.
