5 thing I wish I knew sooner: Interior design edition 1. When it comes to rug size, bigger is better! The goal is to get all your furniture on the rug and if that’s not possible, at least the front legs of the furniture should be touching the rug. A lot of people will go for a smaller rug, especially in a smaller room or in a small apartment, but that can actually visually “shrink” the space. 2. You should be hanging your drapes as close to the ceiling as possible AND they should be going down to the floor or just slightly above the floor. Much like rug size, how high you hang your drapes can affect how big the room looks/feels. If you want to give the illusion of taller ceilings you need to be hanging your drapes as high as possible! 3. Vintage pieces can make your home feel so much cozier and lived in! I’m not saying you have to repurpose Grandma’s old dining table in your new high rise apartment, but adding in things as small as vintage decor pieces can make your home feel more unique and curated. It’s always a good idea to mix old and new! 4. I’m a huge overhead light hater! All the lighting in my home comes from accent lighting and lamps. When choosing light bulbs for your home go for the 2700K bulbs over the 5000K bulbs. This will give all your lighting a nice warm glow instead of that super bright white/blue hew that reminds you of a hospital. 5. A home does not come together in a day, so take your time when you are furnishing and decorating your home. Only invest in pieces that you love and can live with for years to come. If you want to participate in a home trend that is bound to look dated sooner rather than later, try to only incorporate that trend in your home through smaller accent pieces and decor that can be easily swapped out. #interiordesign #interiordesigntips #homedecor #homedecortips #homedesign #homedesigntips #interiorstyling #interiordecor #interiordesignideas
