Did you know that one way to reduce anxiety is by upgrading your bedroom to make it more calm and peaceful? Here are 7 tips that you can follow to try this in your own home. 1. Banish the TV- I know this one can ruffle some feathers, but I’m telling you as someone who struggled with anxiety and had a hard time sleeping for more than 10 years, taking the TV out of my room made a huge difference. The more you can make your brain know that your room is just for sleep, the better quality of sleep you’ll get. 2. Aromatherapy: adding a relaxing scent such as lavender can be another great way to help you feel calm at night time. I like to put a couple drops of lavender oil in my aromatherapy diffuser 30 minutes before bed. 3. Use soft warm lights: For some people sleeping in complete dark helps them, but for others like me adding some warm soft lights helps me feel cozy. I found all of my soft lighting on Amazon. I chose the strip lighting that comes with a remote, so you can adjust the colors and the brightness. 4. Have a meditation space: Having a meditation space in your room is a great way to improve sleep. Try meditating or doing some simple breathwork exercises in your meditation area right before bed. One of the easiest breathing exercises you can start with is the 5-5-5 breathing method. Inhale for five, hold for five seconds and exhale for five seconds. Repeat this 2 to 3 times to help calm your nervous system right before bed. 5. Keep it cool: It can be really hard to sleep when we are hot and tossing and turning. Try finding a way to cool the room down either by cracking the window or getting a small fan. If you own your home, installing a ceiling fan can be a great option too. 6. Limit blue light before bed: The light from our devices can stimulate our nervous system and cause us to not get in to deep rem sleep. Try plugging in your phone on the charger at a certain time every night and committing to not looking at it after that time. This may take practice, but the more you disconnect before bed, the better your mind will be able to rest. 7. Clear the clutter: having clutter in our physical space can also clutter our mental space. #sleepanxiety #sleepeacefully
